STB Reschedules Hazardous Materials Hearing

WASHINGTON — The Surface Transportation Board announced that it has rescheduled — to July 22 — its public hearing examining issues related to the common carrier obligation of railroads (the duty of railroads to provide transportation or service on reasonable request) relative to the transportation of hazardous materials.

Notices of intent to participate, speakers’ written testimonies, and written submissions by interested persons not wishing to appear at the hearing are now due no later than July 8.

The Board originally had scheduled the hearing for July 16 with submissions by hearing participants and by interested persons not wishing to appear at the hearing due July 2. The rescheduled hearing will begin on Tuesday, July 22 at 9:00 a.m. in the Board’s Hearing Room on the 1st Floor of the agency’s headquarters at Patriots Plaza, 395 E Street, S.W., Washington, D.C.

The Board’s decision rescheduling the hearing in the proceeding entitled Common Carrier Obligation of Railroads — Transportation of Hazardous Materials, STB Ex Parte No. 677 (Sub-No. 1)(http://www.stb.dot.gov/decisions/readingroom.nsf/WebDecisionID/39141?OpenDocument), was issued June 19.

A notice will be published in the Federal Register.  The decision is available for viewing and downloading on the agency’s Web site at http://www.stb.dot.gov under “E-Library,” then under “Decisions & Notices,” beneath the date “6/19/08.”
