Nation’s Governors Recognize Three Companies for Outstanding Collaboration with States

WASHINGTON — The National Governors Association (NGA) on Feb. 22 honored Intel, Union Pacific and UnitedHealthcare with its annual Public-Private Partnership Awards at the closing session of the 2010 NGA Winter Meeting.

The awards, in their fourth year, recognize NGA Corporate Fellow companies that have partnered with a governor’s office to implement a program or project that positively affects the state’s citizens.

Intel was nominated by Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer for its overall commitment to education in the state and the Intel Teach professional development program – a partnership with Arizona that helps teachers incorporate technology into their classrooms to ensure students develop the skills they need and helps prepare teachers for 21st century careers.

“Intel has a strong presence in Arizona and a culture of community outreach and giving that benefits education,” said Gov. Brewer. “Since the beginning of the Intel Teach program almost 10 years ago, more than 17,500 Arizona educators have participated in professional development. This effective program has been designated as one of the state’s key initiatives for increasing the use of educational technology in Arizona classrooms.”

“Intel is honored to be recognized by NGA and Gov. Brewer for our work alongside the Arizona Department of Education on Intel Teach,” said Shelly Esque, Intel vice president and director of corporate affairs. “Intel Teach arms teachers with tools to successfully inspire young people to be the next generation of innovators.”

Union Pacific was nominated by Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman for its innovative Principals’ Partnership program. Through the program, Union Pacific works with Nebraska, as well as 20 other states, to provide high school principals with on-site assistance from education professionals; networking opportunities to share best practices; professional development activities and summits; and a wealth of online resources.
