CSX Congratulates Second-Annual Environmental Award Winners

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — CSX congratulated the winners of its second-annual Environmental Awards, highlighting customers whose commitment to a “green” supply chain includes reducing carbon emissions by shipping via CSX.

The awards will be presented this evening in Jacksonville, Florida, as part of the company’s week-long Earth Day celebration.

CSX is recognizing 29 customers who together avoided over 900,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions by shipping with CSX. The emissions avoided by this group has the same positive environmental impact as removing over 150,000 passenger vehicles from the roads for a year. The awards specifically recognize customers who led their industries in CO(2) emissions avoidance in 2009; demonstrated the greatest improvement in avoided emissions in 2009 versus 2008; or deserve special recognition for their commitment to sustained supply chain practices through the use of rail or intermodal transportation.

“We’re proud to partner with our customers to move the goods essential to Americans’ everyday lives in the most environmentally-friendly way possible,” said Clarence W. Gooden, executive vice president, sales and marketing and chief commercial officer, CSX. “The efficiency of freight rail transportation drives our nation’s ability to compete in the global economy while preserving the environment in which we all live.”

The award winners span the spectrum of CSX customers – large and small, urban and rural, from all parts of the CSX network. This year’s winners include: Archer Daniels Midland Co.; American Rock Salt, LLC; Belarusian Potash Company; BP Products North America, Inc.; Bunge North American; C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc.; Cargill Deicing Technology; Certainteed Gypsum, Inc.; Conrad Yelvington Distributors, Inc.; Exxon Mobil Chemical Co.; Ford Motor Company; General Motors Corp.; Interchem Corporation USA; International Paper Company; INVISTA S.a r. l.; Kia Motors; Marten Transport, Ltd.; Mosaic Fertilizer, LLC; Nucor Corporation; PSL North America; Railex, LLC; Schneider National, Inc.; Seaboard Marine Ltd.; Shell Chemicals Company; Tropicana Products, Inc.; Valero Energy Corporation; Vulcan Materials Company, Florida Rock Division; Waste Corporation of Ohio, LLC; and Waste Management, Inc. Many of these companies are being recognized by CSX for the second consecutive year.

In conjunction with its Environmental Awards dinner, CSX will host an afternoon best practices exchange for winners to discuss the benefits of green supply chains and how to continuously improve their environmental stewardship. Co-hosting the dinner will be Clarence W. Gooden, executive vice president, sales and marketing and chief commercial officer, CSX, and Ellen Fitzsimmons, senior vice president, law and public affairs, general counsel and corporate secretary, CSX.
