Union Pacific Railroad Opens New Office in Des Moines

OMAHA, Neb. — Union Pacific Railroad employees gathered to officially open a $2.4 million office building in Des Moines. The more-than-11,600-square-foot building replaces several outdated structures used as offices.

“Our new office provides more than 150 Des Moines employees with a facility that was designed with safety and ergonomics in mind. The building is at ground level which eliminates steps, the open floor plan reduces blind corners inside the structure, and extensive windows and exterior doors provide improved visibility when exiting the building. The new furniture and office equipment also help our employees execute their jobs more efficiently,” said Rod Doerr, superintendent transportation services.

“The building of this facility supported more than 40 construction jobs, with 30 of those jobs being filled by persons from the Greater Des Moines area,” Doerr added.

Construction began on the office at the Union Pacific rail yard off of East Market June 7, 2010, and was completed December 15, 2010.
