Nottingham Designated STB’s Vice Chairman

WASHINGTON — STB Member Charles D. Nottingham has been designated as the agency’s vice chairman, succeeding Francis P. Mulvey.

Mulvey served as Vice Chairman from Jan. 5, 2010 until Jan. 4. He will continue to serve as a board member. The STB’s vice chairman post rotates between the board’s members on an annual basis.

Nottingham, the sole Republican on the three-member board, was appointed Chairman by President George W. Bush and joined the STB on Aug. 14, 2006, following his Senate confirmation. He served as STB chairman until March 12, 2009.

On Oct. 18, 2010, Nottingham said he would not seek a second term on the STB when his current term expired on Dec. 31, 2010.

The STB’s governing statute permits a Board member to continue serving for up to one year after the end of his or her term, until a successor is named and confirmed. Nottingham has not announced a specific departure date.
