L.B. Foster Provides 11,000 CXT Concrete Ties for Tesoro Refinery

PITTSBURGH — L.B. Foster Co. has been awarded a contract by RailWorks Track Systems Inc. to supply 11,000 of its CXT Concrete Ties for the construction of an unloading facility at the Tesoro oil products refinery in Anacortes, Wash.

The Tesoro Corp. refinery is at the western end of an ambitious railway transport system that will include 800 tank cars carrying 40,000 barrels of crude oil each day from Tesoro’s Bakken Shale operations in North Dakota. The concrete ties will support a high-capacity rail unloading system capable of accommodating four 110-car trains simultaneously.

“L.B. Foster has a long-standing and successful relationship with the Tesoro project’s contractor, RailWorks. The Chehalis, Washington track construction company has installed CXT ties on many high profile transit, mainline and industrial systems to minimize life cycle expenses and assure high performance,” said Mark Hammons, L.B. Foster National Sales Manager for CXT Concrete Ties.

The industrial ties are being manufactured with the rail industry’s most advanced concrete tie manufacturing technology at L.B. Foster’s Spokane, Washington facility. L.B. Foster operates two ISO 9001:2008 Certified concrete rail tie manufacturing facilities that are located to supply projects throughout North America with concrete ties for all rail applications.

CXT Concrete Ties began shipping to the jobsite from the Washington State tie plant by truck in May 2012. The final delivery is scheduled to be completed before the end of 2012.
