Amtrak Temporarily Shortening Crescent Route Because of Track Work

Amtrak said it is cancelling some Crescent service in January and February because of track work.

The New York-to-New Orleans train will not operate between Atlanta and New Orleans because of Norfolk Southern Railway track work, Amtrak said. Alternate transportation will not be provided between Atlanta and New Orleans, the railroad.

The Crescent will not operate on Mondays through Thursdays:

  • Jan. 6-9
  • Jan. 20-23
  • Jan. 27-30
  • Feb. 3-6

On the above dates , Train 19 will terminate in Atlanta, and ervice will not be provided between Atlanta, Anniston, Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Meridian, Laurel, Hattiesburg, Picayune, Slidell and New Orleans. Meanwhile, on the above dates, Train 20 will originate in Atlanta, and service will not be provided at New Orleans, Slidell, Picayune, Hattiesburg, Laurel, Meridian, Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Anniston and Atlanta. Train 20 will originate in Atlanta on the dates shown above.

On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during this period, Trains 19 and 20 will serve all stations along the route, but may encounter delays due to speed restrictions and freight train interference.

“The idea of this is to give passengers enough time to plan their trips. We’re still offering the service. It’s just a few days we’ll not be offering it,” WABE quoted Amtrak spokesperson Christina Leeds as saying.
