N.J. Transit this week opened additional tracks at Hoboken Terminal, roughly three weeks after the agency suspended service into the terminal in the wake of a fatal crash.

One person was killed on Sept. 29, when an N.J. Transit accelerated to 21 mph before the crash, the NTSB said. The train was traveling 8 mph about 38 seconds before the crash, then sped up.

“We are pleased to be able to expedite additional service into Hoboken for our customers,” N.J. Transit Executive Director Steven Santoro said in a statement. “In addition, and as an extra safety measure, trains entering Hoboken Terminal will decrease their approach speed from 10 mph to 5 mph. to complement the new safety measure of having the conductor ride in the cab car with the engineering remains.

The railroad opened  Tracks 1 through 4. Tracks 5 and 6 remain closed as the agency continues to investigate and repair the terminal.
