Railfanning in Smyrna, Ga., on Jan. 19, 2017 (Part I)

SMYRNA, Ga. — “The Jonquil City” is like so many cities between Atlanta and Chattanooga, Tenn. It owes so much of its history to the railroad, first the Western & Atlantic and today CSX.

The city of about 55,000 people is a suburb of Atlanta and sees dozens of freight trains every day on what is today the W&A Subdivision of CSX.
