Museum Puts Refurbished Transfer Caboose Back in Service

DULUTH, Ga. — The Southeastern Railway Museum this weekend unveiled a newly refurbished transfer caboose.

The historic caboose made its return to service during the museum’s Caboose Days special event.

The caboose, XC7871, was out of service for a complete overhaul. The caboose served on Southern Railway before it was donated to the museum in 1980. Built in the 1950s, this caboose was used on trains traveling between rail yards in an urban environment.
