CP: Rates Established for Westbound Coal Through End of Q1 2010

CALGARY — Canadian Pacific Railway Limited announced the results of rate proceedings between CP and Teck Coal Ltd. (Teck) addressing rate levels for export traffic moving between Teck’s southern BC mines and Vancouver area ports. Contract terms are confidential and expire on April 7, 2010. AAR: Rail Freight Traffic Down in June

WASHINGTON — The Association of American Railroads reported that U.S. railroads originated 1,039,889 carloads of freight in June 2009, down 19.7 percent with 255,668 fewer carloads, compared with June 2008. U.S. intermodal rail traffic – comprising trailers and containers on flat cars that are not included in carload figures – totaled 755,000 units in June 2009, down 18.2 percent compared with the same period last year with 168,031 fewer trailers and containers, the association said. CP: Temporary closure of Boulevard Perrot Nord

MONTREAL — Canadian Pacific advises West Island area communities that the level crossing at Boulevard Perrot Nord will be closed on Saturday, May 23, 2009 between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. due to “the necessary rebuilding of the road crossing,” the railroad said in a statement. Canadian Pacific Prepares for the Red River Flood

EMERSON, Alberta – Canadian Pacific has temporarily closed its rail line connecting Emerson and Winnipeg due to flooding on the Red River in southern Manitoba. Company officials will be available for comment on flood preparations in Emerson on Monday morning while flood management measures are put in place. CP has worked with emergency management officials, its customers and communities in preparation for the flood. Service on the rail line will be restored as soon as the flood threat passes, the track is inspected and it is safe to return the line to service, the railroad said.

CP, Borealis Infrastructure Announce Changes to Detroit River Tunnel Partnership

CALGARY — Canadian Pacific Railway Limited and Borealis Infrastructure Management Inc. announced that they have entered into a transaction that, subject to regulatory approval, will change their joint ownership of the Detroit River Tunnel Partnership (DRTP) to a majority position for Borealis. CP retains its exclusive right to operate and maintain the Detroit River tunnel; however, CP’s interest will decrease to 16.5 per cent from 50 per cent with the completion of this transaction.
