Gwinnett County Voters to Decide Whether to Join MARTA

Gwinnett County voters will decide in March whether they want to join MARTA, ajc.com reported.

“We’ve got a huge pent up demand for transit options,” the Gwinnett Daily Post quoted Commission Chairwoman Charlotte Nash as saying in August. “I mean if we had any doubt of that, or any question of that, I think we satisfied ourselves with the process that we went through for the public outreach and surveying (for the transit plan).”

Gwinnett would be the first county to join MARTA since voters in Clayton County, south of Atlanta, voted to join the transit agency.

The transit agency originally included just Fulton and DeKalb counties.

The recent Metro Atlanta Speaks survey from the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) found more than half (51 percent) of Gwinnett County residents would pay higher taxes to fund an expansion of regional transit, the Gwinnett Daily Post reported.

The unveiling coincides with the museum’s 2017 Locomotive Celebration, a two-day family friendly event scheduled for June 10-11.
