WASHINGTON – Beginning Monday August 1, Amtrak’s daily Silver Service trains will operate on new schedules between New York and Miami, creating more desirable arrival and departure times in several cities along the trains’ routes and improving connections to trains traveling to other areas of the country.
The new schedules mean:
-
Later southbound arrival times in Jacksonville and Orlando, allowing passengers a little more sleep and breakfast on-board before reaching their destinations.
-
Earlier northbound departures from Miami allowing passengers from Jacksonville and Orlando an improved choice of afternoon and evening departures for New York and other northeast cities.
-
Passengers from Florida will now be able to arrive in New York in the morning and connect to trains for other destinations.
Orlando Area Vacationers to Benefit
The schedule change for the northbound Silver Meteor (train 97) makes departures for vacation travelers heading home more convenient. With a new Orlando departure time of 12:30 pm, vacationers will be able to check out of their hotels and not waste time waiting for the train and the trip home. Previously, the earliest northbound departure from Orlando was 3:54 p.m., which was inconvenient for many passengers, especially families.
The Silver Meteor (trains 97, 98) operates between New York and Miami via Charleston, SC. On the new schedule, southbound departures will be approximately 5 to 40 minutes later than currently scheduled at some stops. Northbound departures will be approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes earlier than currently scheduled. The following chart outlines the new schedule at selected stops on the Silver Meteor route.
