ATHENS, Ga. – Among the historic railroads featured on Railfanning.org is the Elkton & Guthrie Railroad, a little known line that had just 11 miles of track.
The railroad operated between Guthrie, Ky., and Elkton, Ky., from Feb. 1, 1885, to May 12, 1957. Throughout its history, the railroad was leased to the Louisville & Nashville Railroad and did not own any of its own rolling stock.
In addition to articles about railroads, the history section of Railfanning.org includes a growing list of profiles of now defunct railroads. To read the Elkton & Guthrie Railroad’s profile or the profile of other historic railroads, log onto https://railfanning.org/history/
Railfanning.org launched in September 2002 and offers a variety of information about the railroad industry, major railroad companies and the rolling stock regularly seen on the rails today. The site also hosts a news wire of the latest railroad headlines.
