CHICAGO — Surface Transportation Board vice Chairman Charles D. Nottingham and a panel of railroad marketing chiefs will highlight the 2009 North American Rail Shippers meeting.
The meeting will be held May 26-28 at the Downtown Marriott Hotel in Chicago. James R. Young, chairman of the Association of American Railroads and chairman, president and CEO of the Union Pacific, will offer his perspectives about the railroad industry.
“The annual NARS meeting — ‘On Track for the Future’ — is an excellent opportunity to hear the top marketing officers from all eight major North American railroads,” said NARS Executive Director Leo Mountjoy. “In addition, we will also have experts from the steel, building products and chemical industries sharing their thoughts about rail operations from a customer’s perspective.”
The AAR North American Railroad Customer Forum, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, May 27, is one of the conference’s most popular features, according to Mountjoy. Afterward, each of the chief marketing officers will be available in separate breakout sessions to discuss issues and answer questions germane to the individual carriers.
“AAR’s Customer Forum is free-of-charge to those who wish to register for just this part of the conference,” Mountjoy added.
Other presenters will be discussing rail service design, shipper routing protocols and best practices, domestic and international intermodal shipping, equipment forecasting, and the rail financial outlook from a Wall Street perspective.
Argus Media will present its 12th annual “Win-Win” Awards, which are given to those railroads achieving the most successful customer-carrier partnerships in 2009.
