WASHINGTON — Today’s freight rail industry offers great opportunities for women leaders to address critical challenges facing the nation, Lisa Mancini, CSX Corporation senior vice president, human resources and labor relations, said during a panel on “The Evolving Subject of Leadership” at the Women’s Transportation Seminar Annual Conference in Washington.
“Women are playing a greater role in an industry that generates economic efficiencies, drives job growth, invests for the future and helps our nation compete in the global economy,” Mancini said. “Freight railroads are ideally positioned to support the significant anticipated growth in demand for transportation, and we do so in a way that protects the environment and eases congestion on our nation’s highways.”
Since 1980, freight traffic has nearly doubled and, based on economic and population growth, it is expected to continue to significantly increase in the coming decades.
At CSX, Mancini is part of the executive team and oversees all functions related to human resources, including hiring, employee engagement, and labor relations. Mancini and her fellow panelists discussed the qualities that make good leaders, stressing the importance of good communications skills.
