TORONTO — Members of the 2010 CP Holiday Train going across Canada in support of local food banks will take advantage of a few hours of free time on Nov. 29 to roll up their sleeves for Toronto’s Daily Bread Food Bank, as well as bringing in some much-needed food donations.
Joining them will be the train’s headlining entertainment, The Odds, who will be playing for regular volunteers and staff.
The Holiday Train is in Toronto as part of its cross-Canada journey for a 7 p.m. show Monday night at 87 Ethel Avenue, adjacent to RONA.
The Holiday Train team also will be dropping off copies of the new 2010 Holiday Train CD, ‘Holiday Train Tracks’ for the Daily Bread to use to raise additional funds or awareness. The 13-track CD featuring several artists, including The Odds, The Barenaked Ladies and Melanie Doane is also being sold on iTunes, www.cpshop.ca and at each performance – with all proceeds going back to local food banks.
Last year, there was a 16 per cent increase in visits to food banks for a total of 872,000 client visits (73,000 monthly average), the largest increase in visits in 15 years. Daily Bread’s Holiday Drive runs until January 3rd with a goal of one million dollars and one million pounds of food for those struggling with hunger in Toronto.
