NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk Southern announced two actions in relation to the March 11 earthquake and tsunami that resulted in severe loss of life and physical damage in Northern Japan.
To assist relief efforts, Norfolk Southern Foundation will provide a 1:1 match for contributions made by active and retired NS employees to four nonprofit organizations: The American Red Cross/International Response Fund, AmeriCares, Habitat for Humanity International, and the Salvation Army International Relief Fund.
Individual gifts of at least $25 (by check, credit card, or donated stock) will be matched under this special program. Gifts made between March 11 and June 30, 2011, will be matched up to a maximum corporate contribution of $250,000 to those organizations.
Employees and retirees who donate by check should print, fill out, and enclose a Norfolk Southern Foundation Matching Gift form with their gifts.
Employees and retirees who donate by credit card should forward copies of their online receipts to Norfolk Southern Foundation, Box 229, Three Commercial Place, Norfolk, Va., 23510.
In all cases, contributors should indicate that their donations are for “Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief.”
Norfolk Southern said also that its Foundation will make an immediate corporate gift of $50,000, to be split between the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
