U.S. Senate Confirms Sean Duffy as Transportation Secretary

The U.S. Senate has confirmed former U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy as the next U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary.

“I am grateful the Senate has voted in support of Sean Duffy to lead the Department of Transportation,” U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, said in a statement.

“Throughout the confirmation process, Sean has displayed a passion for public service and a willingness to listen and learn to ensure that this vital department is operating at the highest level of safety and efficiency across all modes under its jurisdiction,” Cruz added. “I want to congratulate Sean and his family, and I look forward to working with him to advance innovation and safety on America’s roads, railroad tracks, skies, and waterways.”

The full Senate voted 77-22 in favor of Duffy, 53, a former Fox News Channel host. Last week, the Commerce Committee voted 28-0 in favor of the Wisconsin native who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011 until 2019.

“Congratulations to Secretary Sean Duffy on his confirmation as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation by a strong, bipartisan vote,” House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Ranking Member Rick Larsen, D-Washington, said in a statement.

“I look forward to working with Secretary Duffy in a bipartisan fashion to stem the chaos created by recent Executive Orders, bring clarity to project sponsors and to guarantee completion of infrastructure projects across the country—protecting the jobs of hardworking women and men in transportation and keeping the recent historic investments in transportation going,” Larsen added. “Supporting safe and efficient mobility and opportunity for all should not be controversial.”
