The Teamsters Union is proud to strongly support the nomination of former U.S. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, R-Oregon, to be the next U.S. Secretary of Labor.
“As the daughter of a Teamster, Lori Chavez-DeRemer knows the importance of carrying a union card and what it means to grow up in a middle-class household,” Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien said in a release.
“Working people need someone with her experience leading the agency that is tasked with protecting workers, creating good union jobs, and rebuilding our nation’s middle class,” O’Brien added. “The Teamsters are grateful to President Trump for putting American workers first by nominating Rep. Chavez-DeRemer to this important role.”
During her time in Congress, Chavez-DeRemer stood up for UPS workers’ right to strike, worked to protect the right to organize, and fought to keep American jobs from being shipped overseas.
“In the coming weeks, the Senate will have the opportunity to put a champion for working people at the head of the Department of Labor,” Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman said in a release. “Rep. Chavez-DeRemer is an excellent choice for Secretary of Labor and should be confirmed swiftly and with strong bipartisan support.”
