MARTA Completes Garnett Station Platform Renovation

Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority has resumed Red and Gold Line service at Garnett Station after trains temporarily skipped the station for six weeks to allow platform renovations.

Skipping the stop ensured customer and employee safety during construction and saved approximately 4 months of construction time and $5 million.

During the temporary skip stop, MARTA’s construction partners replaced the 44-year-old platform pavers as planned and worked ahead to replace pavers on the lower concourse.

Replacement of pavers on the upper concourse and other work at the station will continue, including heavy cleaning and pressure washing, windscreen replacement, and the application of graffiti-resistant coating and sealant to wall surfaces. Service is not impacted.

In addition, MARTA is partnering with the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District and the Project for Public Spaces to transform the plaza’s large concrete space into a welcoming, engaging environment that promotes community connection ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The Garnett Station Rehabilitation project is part of MARTA’s multi-year, approximately $1 billion Station Rehabilitation Program designed to improve and enhance safety and aesthetics at all 38 rail stations.
