Two popular train series are returning, giving viewers a chance to revisit the journeys that made former UK Member of Parliament Michael Portillo well-known among railway fans.
“Great British Railway Journeys” and “Great American Railroad Journeys” return in early 2026, offering longtime fans and new viewers the opportunity to experience iconic routes, towns, scenery and stories of these landmark rail networks.
Portillo uses historic railway handbooks such as “Bradshaw’s Descriptive Railway Hand-Book of Great Britain and Ireland” and “Appleton’s General Guide to the United States & Canada” to bring history to life. He meets passengers and explores local stories, showing how scenery, communities, and cultures have changed over the past 150 years.
Great British Railway Journeys premieres on Places and Spaces on Jan. 12, streaming daily from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern. On Presidents Day, Feb. 16, historic tracks across the U.S. are added to the channel, featuring Great American Railway Journeys, streaming daily from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern.
After that, both series will stream one after the other each day, letting viewers enjoy a smooth railway journey from America to Great Britain. The Places and Spaces FAST channel is available on Amazon, Google TV, Hi-Sense, Plex, Roku, Sling, and Xumo Play.
