NY Operation Lifesaver Announces 2027 Rail Photo Contest

NY Operation Lifesaver is asking railfans to participate in a photo contest for its 2027 calendar, offering prizes and publication opportunities for winning entries.

The contest is open to photographers who capture rail-related photos depicting an aspect of the rail system in New York state, including trains, trestles and tracks. Participants may submit up to three photos.

First prize is a Walthers HO-scale New York Central locomotive. Second prize is $150, and third prize is $100. The top three photos, along with as many honorable mentions as space allows, will be featured in NY Operation Lifesaver’s free 2027 calendar.

Entries must be submitted by April 15, via email to NYOLStateCoordinator [at] gmail.com. The email subject line should read “2027 Calendar,” and submissions must include the photographer’s name and contact information.

NY Operation Lifesaver emphasized that safety is a key requirement of the contest. Photos must be taken from a safe, lawful location. Any image that appears to have been taken on railroad property without permission or within 15 feet of the tracks will be disqualified.

The organization said it hopes to give back to the railfan community while promoting rail safety awareness.
