Dallas Area Rapid Transit has received a $25 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to upgrade eight Red and Blue Line stations in South Dallas.
The grant is among more than $1.73 billion awarded to 127 public transportation projects nationwide.
The project will remove center crosswalks, level station platforms and improve access for passengers with limited mobility or luggage. Funding also will support updated wayfinding signs and security systems.
DART said the federal funding will reduce the amount of local money needed to complete the project and help the agency keep its system in a state of good repair.
Construction and upgrades are expected to begin in early 2027 and continue in phases through 2030.
