Genesee & Wyoming Reports Results for the First Quarter of 2010

GREENWICH, Conn. — Genesee & Wyoming Inc. reported net income in the first quarter of 2010 of $16.0 million, compared with net income of $13.9 million in the first quarter of 2009. GWI’s diluted earnings per share (EPS) in the first quarter of 2010 were $0.39 with 41.4 million weighted average shares outstanding, compared with diluted EPS of $0.38 with 36.4 million weighted average shares outstanding in the first quarter of 2009. “Our first quarter financial results were a good start to 2010,” said John C. Amtrak is Working on the Railroad in 2010

WASHINGTON – As the 2010 construction season gets underway, Amtrak is embarking on $1 billion construction program to fund capital projects designed to rebuild, upgrade and modernize its tracks, bridges, stations and other critical infrastructure along the busy Northeast Corridor and across the country, including Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle and the Miami area. “We are investing in our infrastructure to improve the reliability, safety and security of our operations and support the growing demand to travel by Amtrak,” said President and CEO Joseph Boardman, noting America’s passenger railroad posted record ridership numbers for the first six-months of this fiscal year.

Amtrak Reaches Tenative Agreements for New Labor Contracts with IBEW, IAM, JCC and TCU

WASHINGTON – Amtrak has reached tentative agreements on new labor contracts with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), the Joint Council of Carmen, Coach Cleaner and Helpers (JCC) and the Transportation Communications International (TCU) covering the period of Jan. 1, 2010, through Jan. 1, 2015. The new contracts must be ratified by the union membership and will cover Electricians, Machinists, Carmen and Coach Cleaners, Clerks and Telegraphers.
