Several New Jersey lawmakers are calling for an immediate special hearing by the state legislature to investigate and find solutions to NJ Transit’s ongoing issues.

The National Mediation Board has ended more than four years of negotiations between NJ Transit and a union representing its engineers without a resolution, paving the way for a strike that federal law could still delay by months.

In light of fare hikes set for July 1 and a planned corporate transit fee to be added to the state budget this week that collectively add billions to NJ Transit’s budget, New Jersey Assemblyman Michael Inganamort expressed concerns over the agency’s inability to ensure timely train operations.
