Total rail traffic volume in the United States in 2016 was 26,587,351 carloads and intermodal units, down 5 percent or 1,389,323 carloads and intermodal units from the same point last year.
BNSF Railway Co. has announced that its planned capital expenditures for 2015 will be $6 billion, which the railroad says will go toward maintenance and expansion of the railroad in order to meet the expected demand for freight rail service.
BNSF is training 500 Washington first responders and by early October the railroad will surpass its goal of training 600 first responders in community hazmat trainings that are being held throughout the state.
