ALTOONA, Penn. — Norfolk Southern Corporation announced that its Thoroughbred Mechanical Services group has reached an agreement with General Motors’ Electro-Motive Division to modify 46 DM30AC and DE30AC locomotives.
The locomotives are currently in service for the Long Island Rail Road.
The work involves making several modifications to the bodies and frames of the locomotives and will be performed at Norfolk Southern’s Juniata Locomotive Shop in Altoona, Pa. The first of these locomotives is expected to be completed and returned to LIRR as early as October 2002.
Thoroughbred Mechanical Services, based in Altoona, Pa., was created in 1999 by Norfolk Southern to globally market the capabilities of its mechanical facilities to the railroad, maritime and power generation industries.
