One of my favorite pictures is from Chattanooga — https://railfanning.org/trackside/chattanooga/chattanooga01.jpg. It’s framed nicely as the train is passing under some signals, something I haven’t done too often, but I think adds to any picture.
I actually like trains passing through grade crossings. I’m not sure why, but I think it’s an interesting environment for a train to be passing through. One of my favorite pictures is from Springfield, Tenn., where I framed an approaching train in the gates — https://railfanning.org/trackside/springfield/springfield01.jpg.
A lot of people like trains passing through flat areas. I shot a southbound CSX train in Adams, Tenn., that turned out great. It’s at https://railfanning.org/trackside/adams/adams002a.jpg. The smoke coming from the train adds to the overall image.
