CSC Signs Multi-Year IT Outsourcing Contract With Network Rail in United Kingdom

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Computer Sciences Corporation announced that it has signed an information technology (IT) services contract with Network Rail, owner and operator of the UK’s railway infrastructure.

The agreement, which has a five-year base period and one three-year option, coincides with a significant infrastructure investment by Network Rail essential to providing the UK with a safe, reliable and efficient railway.

Under the terms of the contract, CSC will provide midrange services and Oracle ERP support. The midrange work includes server maintenance and management, data center hosting, security, disaster recovery planning and storage area network management. Approximately 70 members of Network Rail’s current IT support team will transition across to CSC, including employees from previous contract incumbents.

“We are delighted to be working with Network Rail,” said Nick Wilson, president of CSC’s European Northern Region Operations. “This win builds on our track record in the public sector and our significant global presence in the transport industry. CSC’s critical infrastructure expertise will help deliver improved results to Network Rail in support of their journey to become a world-class organization.”

“This is a key contract award for both organizations and was arrived at following exhaustive evaluations by my team in NR and, from CSC’s point of view, in the face of fierce, high quality competition,” said Catherine Doran, director of Information Management at Network Rail.

“We are eager to exploit CSC’s capabilities and look forward to a lasting relationship based on trust, mutual strategic understanding and sound operational delivery of services to our customers,” Doran said. “We have always been clear that our preferred supplier in this area must engage in our NR development and change program as well as keep the critical systems running.”
