A passenger train that later became involved in a fatal rear-end collision had stopped after receiving an incorrect Automatic Warning System alert at a green signal, according to an interim report from Britain’s Rail Accident Investigation Branch.

A railroad crossing that was closed over safety concerns after children were spotted playing “chicken” with trains will reopen following a significant upgrade, Network Rail said.

The operator of one of Britain’s busiest train lines will return to public ownership in March 2027.
