CN Signs VMA With Village of Long Grove, Ill.
CHICAGO — CN has reached a voluntary mitigation agreement (VMA) with the Village of Long Grove, Ill., located approximately 35 miles northwest of Chicago, addressing the municipality’s environmental and safety concerns with CN’s acquisition of the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway Company (EJ&E). With this agreement, CN has VMAs with 23 of the 33 communities situated on the EJ&E in Illinois and Indiana. CN, which completed its purchase of the EJ&E on Jan. 31, 2009, will provide funding for various measures in Long Grove, including maintenance of an existing quiet zone, and emergency response training and communication. Amtrak: Niantic Bridge Closure Schedule Supports Boaters and Bridge Construction Through Oct. 15
NEW YORK — Discussions between Amtrak, East Lyme Selectman Paul Formica, the U.S. Coast Guard and local boaters and marine businesses have resulted in an agreement that officials say balances the use of the Niantic River channel by the marine community and the need to keep the bridge replacement project moving forward and on schedule.
Amtrak Adds Weekend Stops in Michigan City, Ind.
CHICAGO — Amtrak has added special stops in Michigan City, Ind., on three Wolverine Service trains during selected Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays, through November 8. This is in response to the construction-related shut down of South Shore Line commuter rail service east of Gary, Ind., on those dates. This amounts to a temporary doubling of the number of Amtrak frequencies stopping in Michigan City, from three trains to six, and will preserve a rail travel option for Michigan City-area passengers on those weekends.
