WASHINGTON — The Federal Surface Transportation Board has directed Canadian National Railway Co. to come before the Board and explain the significant differences between information on street-crossing blockages in the Chicago area that the railroad has provided to the Board and the results of an independent audit conducted by the Board.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — CSX congratulated the winners of its second-annual Environmental Awards, highlighting customers whose commitment to a “green” supply chain includes reducing carbon emissions by shipping via CSX. The awards will be presented this evening in Jacksonville, Florida, as part of the company’s week-long Earth Day celebration. CSX is recognizing 29 customers who together avoided over 900,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions by shipping with CSX. The emissions avoided by this group has the same positive environmental impact as removing over 150,000 passenger vehicles from the roads for a year. WASHINGTON – Amtrak testified before a Senate committee that “the security of our system is our top priority” and its efforts are focused on defeating or deterring the most dangerous and likely terror tactics, including use of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on board a train or at a station and the emerging threat of an active shooter.
WASHINGTON – Stressing that the upcoming surface transportation reauthorization bill should be “revolutionary, not evolutionary” when it comes to federal investment in intercity passenger rail, Amtrak testified before a Congressional field hearing in Chicago that “[t]he need for reliable, multiyear funding is our biggest policy challenge.”
FORT WORTH – Amtrak and the Oklahoma and Texas state transportation departments today announced the nation’s first-ever test of a cleaner and renewable biodiesel fuel blend to power a daily interstate passenger train between Oklahoma City and Fort Worth, with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the use of foreign oil. Amtrak received a $274,000 grant from the Federal Railroad Administration to carry out the research project in partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (Okla. DOT) on the daily Heartland Flyer train operated by Amtrak with state support from both Oklahoma and Texas. The biodiesel blend includes
JEFFERSON CITY – Leaving a little earlier in the morning or a little later in the afternoon will help ensure a punctual, uninterrupted ride for Amtrak Missouri River Runner passengers through the middle of June. Maintenance work on the Union Pacific Railroad tracks near Sedalia is causing Amtrak to temporarily adjust its schedules from April 25 to June 16.
