ATLANTA – Pending approval by MARTA’s Board of Directors during its Thursday meeting, General Manager/CEO Jeffrey Parker and Stadler US President Martin Ritter are scheduled to sign an agreement for the procurement of 254 new rail cars for the MARTA fleet.
The $646 million agreement is a milestone in the Authority’s capital improvement program, which is aimed at improving performance and enhancing customer experience.
MARTA has procured rail cars three times previously – in 1979, 1985 and 2003.
The Stadler procurement, however, will mark the first time that previously purchased cars have been retired, MARTA officials said.

The pilot is estimated to generate around $1,000 to $5,000 per month for MARTA at no cost to the Authority. “The website advertising pilot project provides a great opportunity for us to tap into a new revenue stream,” said MARTA General Manager/CEO Keith T. Parker. “This program is just one of the many ways we are working to develop a more sustainable business model for MARTA
