CARTERSVILLE, Georgia — When I speak on railroad history, I usually make a joke early in my presentation about never seeing a train when I want to.
So, yesterday, I arrived early to Cartersville for a presentation at the Bartow History Museum. I was finishing a few tasks on my laptop while sitting in my car and facing the historic Western & Atlantic Railroad. I thought to myself I need to include that joke in my presentation.
Suddenly, the crossing bells began to sound, and the gates lowered. With that, a CSX Transportation train comes backing down the tracks.
So much for that joke!
