TRENTON – New Jersey Sen. Troy Singleton, D-Burlington, will host a public meeting with NJ Transit executives and CEO Kevin Corbett focusing on service reliability and public and pedestrian safety regarding the River Line.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at the Palmyra Community Center at 30 W. Broad Street.
Following a presentation from NJ Transit, there will be a public comment session for riders and residents to share their concerns and experiences directly. Members of the public who would like to attend can RSVP at https://www.troysingleton.com/riverline.
“The River LINE is the only rail service that serves commuters in this region, so when it has service disruptions or commuters don’t feel safe there are simply no other alternatives,” Singleton said in a statement. “I thank NJ Transit for their willingness to participate in this meeting. I also encourage riders and residents to attend so they can share their experiences directly.”
In July, Singleton wrote a letter calling for accountability for repeated delays and cancellations that have negatively impacted the commutes of thousands of residents that rely on the River Line in their daily lives. Additionally, after a local teen was tragically killed when crossing the tracks in Palmyra in August, Singleton urged NJ Transit to consider lower speed limits, increase fencing around the tracks, and renew public education efforts about pedestrian safety.
Singleton has also worked to improve public safety in the River Line communities by spearheading and securing funding for a new partnership between the Burlington County Sheriff’s Office and local police departments.
