The Chicago Transit Board approved the Chicago Transit Authority’s more than $2.1 billion operating budget for 2025, an 8.1 percent increase over the budget for 2024.

Officials said the plan is designed to maintain current fares, enhance bus and rail services beyond pre-pandemic levels, and support continued investments in infrastructure and technology. Officials said the budget prioritizes system security, accessibility, reliability and safety.

Key initiatives include ongoing workforce recruitment and training to maintain elevated service levels, especially during peak hours, and implementing enhanced customer communication tools. The CTA is also earmarking $3.3 million to solicit community input for developing future pilots to improve public safety.

CTA’s Capital Improvement Program for 2025-2029 is a separate more than $6.9 billion budget.
