The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority is advancing its originally planned Five Points Transformation Project.

The agency said it reached an agreement with Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and the city of Atlanta to keep one station entrance open during construction, allowing for street and elevator access, and bus pick up and drop off.

The first phase of the project, which includes deconstruction of the station’s concrete canopy was paused in July amid concerns of restricted street access to the station for up to 18 months. The paused followed assertions from MARTA that it would not slow the project.

“Allowing street access during the project will mean an extended construction schedule and some early nightly closures because construction materials cannot be moved by crane over an active station entrance,” MARTA said in an email.

The agreement between MARTA and the city allows for the continuation of the transformation of Five Points Station.
