MARTA Looking to Extend Bankhead Station Platform

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) is planning to extend the platform on its Bankhead station to accommodate eight-car trains.

The station currently accommodates two-car trains. The extension would match the capacity of MARTA’s other 37 rail stations.

The project is primarily funded by the More MARTA half-penny sales tax collected in Atlanta. It was among the first to receive funding from Georgia from the $.50 fee on for-hire-ground transportation established in 2020

MARTA officials say the increased rail car capacity will also better support the transit needs of a future Microsoft campus and development planned around Bankhead station.

MARTA will host a virtual public meeting to provide updates on the Platform Extension Project on Thursday, Feb. 24, at 6 p.m.
