Police in Charleston, South Carolina, are investigating after an Amtrak train struck and killed a pedestrian this morning.
A preliminary investigation determined that the pedestrian was attempting to cross tracks near Highway 61 and Bees Ferry Road when they were struck by the train at 5:25 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16. No passengers were injured, police said.
The fatality remains under investigation, and police have not filed any charges. There are no impacts to vehicular traffic in the area.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the person killed. Anyone with information that may be relevant to the investigation is asked to submit a tip at charlestonpd.fususvault.com/tips.
