Trump Designates Fuchs as the chair of the Surface Transportation Board

Newly minted President Donald Trump has designated Patrick Fuchs as the chair of the Surface Transportation Board.

“Chairman Fuchs has proven to be a thoughtful, solutions-oriented leader who lets data drive the decision-making process,” AAR President and CEO Ian Jefferies said in a statement.

“Throughout his career, he has been committed to maintaining the balanced regulatory framework that allows railroads to invest while also offering appropriate remedies for rail customers,”  Jefferies added. “America’s railroads look forward to working with him as we advance our shared goal of a thriving, vibrant rail network that helps businesses and our economy continue to grow.”

Fuchs was sworn in as a member of the STB on Jan. 17, 2019, and re-confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 14, 2024. His second term expires on Jan. 14, 2029.

Before his appointment, Fuchs was a senior staff member working on surface transportation and maritime issues for the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation under the leadership of Chairman John Thune, R-South Dakota.
