Georgia Central Railway Crossing Work Prompts Road Closure

LYONS, Georgia — At the request of the Georgia Central Railway, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced a three-day State Route 86 road closure in Ohoopee in conjunction with railroad crossing improvements in Toombs County.

SR 86 will be closed at the railroad crossing and traffic detour starting at 7 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 2, continuing through 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4, weather permitting. The roadway will reopen early if the work is completed ahead of schedule; otherwise, it may remain closed for an extended period due to weather delays.

A contractor for Georgia Central Railway will install and maintain the road closure with a detour in place. During the closure, State Route 86 traffic will be detoured via State Route 292, US 1, and US 280. Motorists will be able to access residences in the area up to the railroad crossing work zone.
