NJ Transit will temporarily suspend service statewide Sunday evening as a major snowstorm is expected to bring significant accumulations across New Jersey.
Under the plan, all bus, light rail and Access Link service will be suspended beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22. Rail service will be suspended statewide by 9 p.m., with NJ Transit warning that some trips will end earlier and that no train will begin a new trip after 9 p.m. from its origin.
NJ Transit said it will assess storm impacts overnight into Monday to determine when it is safe to resume service. Customers were advised to monitor service alerts, the NJ Transit mobile app, njtransit.com and individual line accounts on X for updates.
NJ Transit also cautioned that during a suspension, riders may still see trains and light rail vehicles operating without passengers to keep tracks and overhead wires clear of snow and ice, and urged motorists and pedestrians to obey all crossing signals and use designated crossings.
Among the last scheduled departures before rail service is shut down:
- Northeast Corridor: Train 7860 Trenton 7:16 p.m. to New York 8:50 p.m.; Train 7865 New York 6:10 p.m. to Trenton 7:45 p.m.
- North Jersey Coast Line: Train 7256 Long Branch 6:25 p.m. to New York 8:09 p.m.; Train 7265 New York 5:50 p.m. to Long Branch 7:39 p.m.
- Raritan Valley Line: Train 5532 Raritan 7:14 p.m. to Newark Penn 8:15 p.m.; Train 5537 Newark Penn 8:38 p.m. to Raritan 9:42 p.m.
- Atlantic City Line: Train 4682 Atlantic City 5:21 p.m. to Philadelphia 7:01 p.m.; Train 4687 Philadelphia 7:50 p.m. to Atlantic City 9:25 p.m.
NJ Transit said its Emergency Operations Center is open, with key personnel pre-positioned across the system to respond as conditions develop.
