The New Jersey Senate Transportation Committee advanced bipartisan legislation to ensure Burlington County has representation on the South Jersey Transportation Authority’s Board and a voice in regional transportation decisions.
“From increased development to heavier traffic and growing regional connections, the decisions made by the SJTA impact Burlington County residents every day,” state Sen. Latham Tiver, R-Atlantic, Burlington, said in a release. “By ensuring Burlington County has a seat at the table, we are giving more South Jersey communities a voice in shaping the planning and transportation decisions that will impact their daily commute.”
Currently, the SJTA includes Atlantic, Cape May, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem counties. Tiver’s bipartisan bill, S-3748, would add representation from Burlington County to the board and require that three of the eight SJTA members are residents of areas in South Jersey located outside a 30-mile radius of the Atlantic City International Airport or communities not traversed by the Atlantic City Expressway.
