The SunRail commuter rail system serves the Orlando, Florida, metropolitan area.
The system serves an area with more than 2 million people and serves the cities of Orlando, Winter Park, Maitland, and Altamonte Springs. SunRail operates a fleet of Motive Power Industries’ diesel-electric commuter locomotives.
The first phase of SunRail officially opened on May 1, 2014, running 32 miles from Debary in Volusia County to Sand Lake Road in Orange County. It initially included 12 stations.
SunRail’s Southern Expansion, which included four additional stations, officially opened for service on July 30, 2018. It expanded the line from Sand Lake Road in Orange County to Poinciana in Osceola County.
The second phase will extend service north from DeBary to DeLand in Volusia County.
The Florida Department of Transportation operates SunRail. As of 2023, SunRail runs 40 daily train trips Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
