Biography
W.E. Beach was a Clarksville businessman associated with the city’s final streetcar company, the Citizens Street Railway. In January 1916, Beach was among the company’s incorporators, which was organized to restore streetcar service after the failure of the Clarksville & Dunbar Cave Railway.
As president of the Citizens Street Railway, Beach helped oversee repairs to the city’s tracks and overhead trolley wires before service resumed in April 1916. While preparing for the restart, he promoted the company’s new cars and promised an improved schedule and better service. Beach also appeared among the active pallbearers at the 1912 funeral of Col. John F. Shelton, one of Clarksville’s leading early street railway promoters.
