Metuchen Station Reopens Following Major Renovation

Overview

After 15 months of planning, discussion and construction, officials dedicated the renovated Metuchen railroad station, preserving the borough’s historic 1888 depot rather than replacing it with a proposed new station several blocks west of downtown. The project included a refurbished station building, new high-level platforms, and expanded parking facilities. At the time, Metuchen was one of only four stations on New Jersey’s portion of the Northeast Corridor with high-level platforms. Local leaders praised the decision to retain the station’s historic location on Main Street, viewing the project as both a transportation improvement and a preservation success
