William Thornton

Biography

William Thornton, a conductor on a Georgia Railroad freight train, was killed on Sept. 24, 1862, near Union Point, Georgia, when a Georgia Railroad train struck him on or near the track. He had brought his train to Union Point the previous night and was apparently walking to his residence when the accident occurred. His body was found badly mangled on the railroad the following morning.
