5E SVM Railway Company LLC has filed with the Surface Transportation Board to acquire and operate the 30.6-mile Trona Railway in California.
The company filed a verified notice of exemption to acquire the line from Trona Railway Company LLC. The railroad extends from milepost 0.0 at Searles Junction to milepost 30.6 at Trona.
According to the filing, SVMR’s parent company, 5E SVM LLC, entered into an asset purchase agreement with Trona Railway and its parent company, Searles Valley Minerals Inc., to acquire the railroad’s assets.
SVMR plans to operate the line and provide common carrier rail service. The company also asked the STB to waive the normal 30-day waiting period so the exemption can take effect immediately. The board said it would address that request separately.
SVMR said the acquisition does not include any provision that would restrict future interchange with another connecting railroad.
The company projects annual revenue from the operation will not exceed $5 million, and the transaction will not create a Class I or Class II railroad.
