Workers Launch Memphis, Clarksville & Louisville Railroad Strike

Overview

On Feb. 6, 1868, trains stopped operating on the Memphis, Clarksville & Louisville Railroad after employees refused to continue working without pay, bringing the company’s worsening financial condition to the center. The railroad remained dormant for 11 days, and trains were rerouted over the Nashville & Northwestern Railroad.
